I have a new laptop. It is a gorgeous machine. I bought this one: [link] (for $950).
It's a bit harder to do art on it, though. The touch pad reacts a bit differently, and my tablet isn't installing properly for some reason so I can only use one of the buttons on the pen and no pressure sensitivity (I need to get a new tablet anyways).
Even so, I can manage, and I might take on some commissions anyways... I'm a bit financially distraught. I'm thinking.... for now I think I'll just want to do commissions for 100x100 pixel icons. Head-shot pieces. Depending on the complexity, probably $5-$15 each. And then you can use them in your blog or on forums or wherever.
Another sample (an original character), tablet-drawn and colored: [link]
I could pull off doing a simple animation, like a wink or a brief smile or something. That would cost extra, of course. And keep in mind that animation GIF images are lower in color quality than PNG images.
So, commissions aren't open yet, I just want some feedback before I decide, are any of you interested in buying 100x100 pixel commissions?
Wow... those big new advertisements smack in the middle of galleries and favorites are really annoying. ...When I link people to my gallery, I want them to see my art, not a fat distracting animated advertisement.
It used to be that I'd upload all my art to DA first. But I'm not going to ask my viewers to get subjected to intrusive ads. I'm going to take a big step back from DA and start uploading things to my main gallery more regularly (and I'll put up a scraps section in it once I decide on a layout for one). I don't think I'm going to leave DA completely. I'll still upload some things, but more as an afterthought, instead of uploading everything I make to DA right away. And I'll do things like advertise commissions here when I open slots.
It would still be nice to get regular feedback on some things. Which is why I decided I'll start putting public art-related entries in my ad-free LiveJournal soon. So, anyone and everyone interested, feel free to add chewy-kinzoku to your LiveJournal's (if you have one) friend list... or just watch it. There's nothing public to look at there right now, but there will be.
EDIT: Forgot to mention my shiny new oekaki-style art blog! Click here. It's the kind of site where you can only draw things directly to it, you don't upload anything. So it's completely different than my LiveJournal. But I love it to death.
Today marks my 22nd birthday. I'm getting older every year, apparently.
Hm... I need to work on Evilish when I have time. I finished scripting the next two chapters and I really like how they turned out. The next one is amusing and light-hearted, and the one following it jumps into a deep, sad flashback. Hopefully when they're drawn/colored and posted, my readers will enjoy those two chapters as much as I do.
Evilish T-shirts and another kind of magnet coming soon. And I'm going to work on Evilish calendars sometime. (Does anyone remember the calendar project I attempted to do a few years ago? Yeah, that failed. This time I'll do better.)
